Hands-On Learning with Clean Transportation Technology
HEFT welcomes inquiries from organizations interested in using a clean transportation vehicle for education, training, demonstration, public benefit, or operational learning.
Vehicles Can Teach in Ways Presentations Cannot
Clean transportation can be hard to understand from a distance. A real vehicle gives people something to see, examine, question, and discuss.
HEFT places vehicles where they can help organizations teach, train, compare technologies, understand operations, or explore what it takes to use and maintain clean transportation vehicles in real-world settings.
This program is for organizations with a clear learning, training, demonstration, operational, or public-benefit purpose. It is not for individual test drives or personal vehicle use.

What HEFT Considers

HEFT reviews each vehicle placement inquiry based on the organization, the intended use, the available vehicle, and the practical requirements of a responsible placement.
HEFT takes into consideration:
Mission alignment
Educational or workforce value
Public benefit
Safety
Insurance
Secure storage
Fueling or charging access
Operational readiness
Maintenance capacity
Ability to support learning, demonstration, or reporting needs
Submitting a request does not guarantee that a vehicle will be available or that a placement will be approved. Placements depend on vehicle availability, mission fit, safety, infrastructure, operational readiness, and written agreement terms.
How a Vehicle May Be Used
Learning, Training, Demonstration, and Public Benefit
A vehicle placed through HEFT may be used in several ways, depending on the organization, the vehicle, and the placement purpose.
-

As a Learning Asset
A vehicle can help students, instructors, and community members better understand clean transportation systems, fuel or energy choices, infrastructure needs, emissions, safety considerations, and technology tradeoffs.
-

As a Workforce Readiness Tool
A vehicle can provide exposure for students, technicians, drivers, fleet staff, instructors, and future workers who may encounter clean transportation technologies in the field.
-

As a Demonstration Platform
A vehicle can help organizations show how clean transportation technologies work in practical settings and what it takes to operate, fuel, charge, maintain, or manage them.
-

As a Public-Benefit Placement
A vehicle may support a nonprofit, public agency, educational institution, workforce program, or other organization whose use advances learning, training, community benefit, or public service.
